There is a major shift in Buckley's work, earlier Ethan got killed alot by ninjas (2002) but that stopped. Other than the 4 players (whos job is to kill each other), his characters are not killed off regularly. His characters do get into stupid scenarios, but the storyline of Ethan and Lilia's first child has been alot of mocking of Ethan's unreadiness and then the disaster that just occured. The progression of the comic has moved away from cheap gags to a more mature setting whilst still keeping the characters under the same situations.
Plus the best comedies are the ones that show the darkness realisticly and make light of everything else.

I'll just share the email I sent to him.

A short thanks and goodbye

I've enjoyed your comics from years past, so thank you for that.

I'm sad you had to go this route, I always enjoyed the light, nonsensical humor in your comic, and I was alright with the sometimes more serious plots, but this last comic was not what I read your comic for. Going from random ninja attacks to miscarriages has convinced me that a comic CAN have too much range.

But your an artist, and you can create whatever you want.

Even though I feel you've disenfranchised a lot of people who read your comic for a good laugh (and not seemed too worried about it either) I'll still wish you good luck...and no hard feelings, I'm just going to get my laughs from somewhere else now.

This whole event was responsible for my favorite current meme.

"Hit her in the baby".

I mean, who does Buckley think he's kidding, seriously? Drama doesn't work when you don't let anyone actually grow to care for your characters. He kills them so often that you can't really feel anything here.

Not to mention the comic is bad.
