The Scienteers: Now Accepting Comics

the-scienteers-now-accepting-comics

Hey all, be sure to read this page to see how we can promote your work! If you’re a webcomic artist looking for an expanded audience, we’ll be glad to help!

To summarize though, from the forum blurb…

One of the features of The Scienteers website is the idea that we want to expose webcomics that may not be getting enough attention when they’re well done.

So, one of the goals was to find a way to promote people’s webcomics frequently, thus we have two methods at our disposal.

One, submit your news to us! You can either use the handy-dandy on-site form or you can e-mail us directly at thescienteers@gmail.com. We’ll be posting news and blurbs as frequently as we can, so don’t hesitate to get ahold of us!

Secondly, we’re going to be running contributed promotional webcomics on our site. Essentially, you can send us 1-3 page promotional stories for us to run on the site and promote your work! Maybe a behind the scenes look, or a non-canon gag, or maybe even a preview of a much larger storyline. We’ll be pleased to run them during certain periods. It’s much better than a text link and a banner ad, right? The format of the comics, as well as futher information can be found on the comic submission page.

So, help The Scienteers help you. Send us news and comics so we can spread the word about your work!

So, be sure to take a look and try sending us a comic to run!

Over the next couple of days until the site launch, expect some downtime and layout changes.

Thanks for your patience while we get things sorted, and be sure to keep sending your news and comics to us!

Haha, no really.

But he IS confirmed to be a member of the Scienteers though! Drop by his site to see his myriad of comics he’s created.

In his own words…

Tell them my back hurts from leaning over my drawings and typing online.

I’m a monster slave to my comics.

Hooray for KC Green! Watch an example of his brilliance.

Be sure to check out this other video he wants you to see

Seeking a blogger.

seeking-a-blogger

There’s a lot of news to cover in webcomicdom it seems, that’s why we’re looking for someone to help us keep up with all that’s going on. So do you want to join the fascinating and nearly-legit art of webcomics-journalism?

Well, we’d love to have you.

We need assistance in scouring the Internet and the news-o-blogs for information to post, as well as developing more involved editorials and articles. All we’re seeking is someone with some free-time who is also an avid webcomic-reader and is well-versed in the subject and would be willing to post news often.

So, if you’re interested, go ahead and contact us via the contact-form, or e-mail us about why you think you’d be a good news-blogger. We definitely have one position open, but we’ll gladly take on more if we have several extremely qualified people.

It’s like Internet panhandling!

Yes, we’re accepting donations to help maintain the cost of the site. We’re planning something special for people who donate five dollars or more.

When you make a donation to the site of an amount over five dollars, we’ll be listing you and your site on the new Sponsor Wall. Not only that, but the more you donate, the more attention your slot on the list gets! So you could potentially be the biggest, baddest person on the wall with a few donations.

The donation button can be found on the sidebar to the right, right below the project-wonderful ad with the Scienteer button on top. No minimum amount for the donation, even a buck is appreciated, but only amounts over five dollars get you on the sponsor wall!

And remember, we could use the money to pay site costs, so please consider donating.

No comics? No problem.

Just a quick note folks! Now the comic submissions include promotional posters for your comics instead, much like the River City Mechanical one above.

So, don’t have a chance to do a comic? Send us a nice promotional image, just make sure we can run it exclusively for a bit, and you meet the guidelines specified for the comics.

However, we will be much more selective when it comes to posters, so make them count!

Pacing, pacing, pacing.

pacing-pacing-pacing

One of my goals with this site was to eventually start workshops on creating comics, as well as discussions on their artistic merits.

Now. I am in no way an expert, but I’ve learned a lot about pacing over time, and I always stress that to all my creator friends. Seriously, if you don’t pace your work well, you run the risk of having a lopsided story, or something that feels too rushed. I know from experience, I’ve had a bad habit of restarting comics because I didn’t page my work properly.

Thus, you should check out this article from the official Star Wars website about comparison of the Star Wars: A New Hope manga and the Marvel comics adaptation. I own one of the New Hope volumes, and it is QUITE an inspiration. I am glad this article was written. Be sure to check it out if you’re serious about your work.

On another note, would you guys be interested in some posts that focus on art, writing and other aspects of creating comics? Would you prefer just focusing on existing webcomics? Maybe you’d like to see how outside materials apply to the art form?

Please, share your thoughts with us.

Scienteers April Fool’s Madness

All mixed up.We’re not sure what happened, crossed communications, bad script handling, alcohol, elves, or Satan himself, but for some reason four of our star Scienteer comics seem to have gotten their creators mixed up…

Today everything is mixed up, and there’s no telling what’s going to happen.

Will Robbie Allen be drawing All Over Migglie? Will Ian Jay draw Cosmic Dash? Nothing is certain, and there’s only one way to find out, and that’s to check out all the participating comics.

So check out Cosmic Dash, Impy and Aevy, All Over Migglie, and Try Everything Once to see who did what and watch the insanity explode!

Navigation Trouble?

navigation-trouble

The newest version of Wordpress has goofed up the arrow-based navigation at the top of the site. I downloaded a fix off of the Comicpress website and I am trying to get it to work. If you want to browse previous comics until the bug is fixed, check the comic-archive.

Hopefully it’s fixed. If not, let us know!

Edit: Tyler lended us a hand, navigation should be working flawlessly now!

Keep up with all the Scienteer comics with one feed.

Brian just showed me something nifty called Yahoo Pipes, even better he did it with all the Scienteer comics so far!

So, check out the global comic feed and subscribe to it with whatever services you like. It gives you our comic updates alone, none of those messy blog updates we like to do all the time. ;) Plus, when a new comic goes up, you’ll be first to know.

Here’s a tip, if you’re using a Google Homepage, click the Google button on the feed to set a gadget on your homepage (or click here), that way you’ll see any news updates as soon as you open your browser.

Also, we’ve got the latest updates displayed on the sidebar as well. So you should be able to access our updates pretty easily now.

PS. We love you.
