The News will Rise Again

Today’s featured comic is The Emerald City!
You never knew Seattle was so… colorful. Or dangerous. In The Emerald City, the men are muscled and the women wear microskirts, the bad guys are monstrous psychos with cool hair, and people die left and right in some pretty gruesome ways. It’s not all random violence (though some is, like at the wings joint…), this is all connected to events 11 years ago.

The Imaginary Illustrations of Mister Cheatham by chee2424 has reached 25 pages! Although if there are pages, are the illustrations imaginary anymore? Hmm…

DJAB has a double announcement! His excellent comic Shades has reached 125 pages as of today, and he has had a very positive review about Shades posted on Ain’t It Cool News Comic Reviews! (You know the site by that Harry Knowles guy.) As for the comic, it’s in the middle of a fantasy sequence, so if you’re tired of boring old realism go check out the mystical demon fangs with big pointy teeth (unless you are Indiana Jones maybe).

And this one was from Monday, I forgot to post it here…

Hello, sorry the newspost and feature are a bit late today. I plumb forgot. Well, I didn’t really completely forget. I completely forgot all weekend but then this morning I remembered, but when I went onto the site it was chugging along too slow to do anything. Then I had work all day, then I had to walk the dog, and eat dinner, and then I had to watch a movie from 1970 about a machine that takes over the world called COLOSSUS.

But now I can do the feature and the newspost.

Monday’s feature is Project Kokiro!

A trio of fairly bubble-headed terrorists breaks into a high security compound to steal the time travel project Kokiro. They DO have a reason for wanting to go to the past (maybe) and although they seem to get in a lot of fights, they are (sort of) getting some kind of job done. If you’re looking for a colorful, whimiscal, funny comic with lots of flailing arms and strange facial expressions, check this one out!

Also, as indicated in the newspost title… the image bugs should be fixed. ALL of them. I think the thumbnails might still sometimes show the wrong rating, but the whole image updating thing, comic pages, comic thumbnails, avatars… it should all be working now. If not, let us know.

FINALLY! I feel like we should have fireworks or something…

Milestones!

worstcase has reached 100 Faults! Sounds like a pretty flawed human being to me… ;)

Dumok is pleased to announce that WarMage has reached 150 pages!

Comicdeoxyribonucleicacid by rufus_edge has reached 25 pages of comicdeoxyribonucleicgoodness! And if I spelled any of that wrong I don’t wanna know.

This last Monday was Raw Fish’s 1st year anniversary on this site!! And to thank everyone for keeping me drawing/on this site, I have made a series of flash movies. These movies will contain a slew of cameos and maybe some surprises. I will set a link to each movie starting on the 7th of July. Each and every Monday I will post a new link to a movie, until all movies have been posted. Now, I do not want any one to get their hopes up, I am NOT a flash master, and these movies are in the Raw Fish style.

Geez, set us up and knock us down why don’t you :) I’m sure the movies will be great!

Monday’s featured comic is Welcome to Border City!
Border City (built by 12 legendary superheroes) was intended as a haven, a place where the darkness of the world outside would be kept outside. But all is not well within Border City’s walls- Evil is still at work. The comic has wonderful art with great attention to detail. It’s the enjoyably puzzling characters and story that make Border City what it is, however.

Th_Mole tells me that The One Panel Case Files has reached 250 comics as of today!

Also having a milestone today is blntmaker, maker of Better Luck Next Time, which has reached 75 pages!

Elanor Pam’s Sinful reached 50 pages last week, congrats!

Lastly, hitting 100 is Pixel Plumbers by darkpower101010!

Got some time for Drunk Duck news?

Thursday’s featured comic is The Chronicles of Wyrden!
It all starts when Talon and Isadora are interrupted in a delicate moment… by Isadora’s husband, the Lord Governor of the city. Luckily for the handsome Talon this isn’t an unusual happening, and he escapes. Unluckily for Isadora, she’s now banished to a convent. Oops! A rather unlikely assembly of characters sets out to save her… Some early filler, but steady on - lovely art, great story, humorous and fun! (Definitely rated M!)

Lots of milestones today, let’s get right to it shall we?

Hitting 50 pages last week was Crossoville, a fun photocomic by Llama_Comic!

Hitting 75 pages is omegasonic0’s Sonic Meets Megaman! (Specifically, July 14th, 2008, at 5:35pm EST)

Rule of Three by Rule_of_Three has hit the big 100! (Thanks to her frient PyThomas for telling me!)

Double that (200 for math-impaired folks) we’ve got arteestx’s very adult Xolta! (That’s a lot of boobs, I wonder if there’s an equation for it…)

Hitting the even bigger 2-5-0 is ghostrunner’s Grin ‘n Spirit!

Stickman and Cube by Pieguy259 turned 1 year old on Tuesday! Davekrill also has a bouncing 1-year-old (as of the 11th) with The Adventures of Toast and Pie! Happy Birthday to youse~

Hey uh, the icons don’t seem to be an option any more, so uh… sorry this post doesn’t have the “Wn” icon. Just pretend it’s there!

Monday’s featured comic is The Necropolis Chronicles!
Jaina’s first day at her new boarding school is a drag. No one likes her, and the feeling is mutual. Jaina knows she is different from her schoolmates- but she doesn’t quite realize just how different until she’s captured by three weirdos in costumes, has to escape a run-down hick cabin in the woods, and sought after by witches and demons. Turns out she’s probably the normal one.

There’s a new community project starting up in the Networking and Community forum (there always is!) - this one is called Tired Comics and it’s all about sleep deprivation (and the comics people draw in that state)… basically, draw or make anything while tired, send it to Bocaj, and he’ll post it up over at Tired Comics! (Please execute safely, do not drive motor vehicles…)

Although a bit newer to the Duck, Majin Kedamoki ’s comic The Final Zone is 1 year old on July 23rd!

The Compozerz by antcomics has recently hit 25 pages! Woo!

For Your Eyes Only… is now a whopping 250 pages old! Congrats, Kohdok!

The week at DD

Those lovable old scamps the Superfogeys have hit 150 pages today! Keep on truckin’ Brock!

Featured comic: MAG-ISA

Everyone knows that the world is run by conspiracies. This comic is about the plot to increase the world’s hate and violence. It’s all instigated by demons of course, the experts in that kind of thing. However they have the cooperation of influential people in the real world. In MAG-ISA, we follow one boy as he struggles in this hate-filled world. In-depth writing, complex ideas, and a bit spiritual at times, there aren’t easy answers or happy endings in MAG-ISA.

Read MAG-ISA

Well things seem to be happening around here, and I for one like it!

To remove a comic you had favorited (but don’t want any more):

1. Open up the MyFavorites menu so they are all listed

2. Click on ‘Edit Favorites Preferences’ at the bottom of that list

3. Click on the trash can of the comic you no longer want!

Eirikr’s custom-sprite comic RPJay turns 25 pages old today! And the 25th comic is triple-sized!

Celebrating 75 stips is The Corner Store Crew by DLMcomics!

taradaga tells me that she has completed her 44-page short story comic, Listen To Yer Mama. Keep making more comics taradaga!

Hey everyone. There seems to have been a minor problem with DD, causing some users to have the wrong security settings.

We think we have it all straightened out, but there may be some Moderators out there without Moderator access, some users may have PQs restricted, frozen comics, etc.

POST HERE if you are having any of these issues. If you can’t get to the forums, send me a PQ Or email me at spang1[at]gmail.com

Please be sure to note if it’s your USER ID or COMIC with the problem. And let us know what user ID or comic that is. ;)

Featured Comic: Mary Sue Academy!

If fanfiction were real, then fanfiction characters would be real… including Mary Sues, those perfectly despicable do-it-alls. And where would they come from? Why, a Mary Sue Academy of course, where they learn all their tooth-sickening traits, perfect their niche (there’s even a Little Mermaid), and are unleashed upon the world. Clever premise, fun characters, cute art, and funny writing - the best bits are the Mary Sues themselves.

Super Smash Brothers Grand Tour, by Ryu_The_Fox, is about to reach 250 pages! Congrats!

And Locoma tells me that he has ended his comic Locoma… let’s hope he starts a new comic soon!

DD weekly rundown

Monday’s featured comic is Lucky Dawg!

If you have crazy freaks as the villains of your city, then maybe you should use crazy freaks to try and stop them. Lucky Dawg is one such man… thing. Actually… he’s a werewolf. The pro-level art is wild and colorful, much like the characters. There’s just something really satisfying about reading a comic about a happy wereworlf, no matter how crazy and violent he is.

The Weekly News of Drunk Duck

Saturday, August 16th, 2008
the-weekly-news-of-drunk-duck

Saturday is milestone day!

Today we have several comics reaching 50 pages- congrats to you guys!

Off Hours, a DD community project, is one of those reaching 50 pages- and is only 11 pages away from chapter 1’s conclusion! Everyone participating in this project has done a great job, it’s a feat of organization and dedication!

National Dex (an adorable hand-drawn pokemon comic) by lucky7s76 is also turning 50! 50 pages is a lot of work, so be proud of yourself :)

Rori’s Because of Ivan also hits 50, and she has this to add: Rori wrote:

It’s a sketchy diary comic, which I ask that people not comment on (so everyone feels like their reading it first, weird, I know), but I still feel really proud that I’ve stuck with it. I dunno, it’s like getting to read my diary without breaking into my house. Good thing, right? ;)

I dunno, if you like breaking into houses, it could be a bad thing…

And at a whopping 350 we have I Fell Down the Stairs, I think 350 is a number that many of us can only hope to achieve. :) (Also, ifelldownthestairs says that nominated for a DD award was awesome! I will add that it is nominated for “Most deliciously offensive comic” which I’m pretty sure is a good advertising point. :)

Drunk Duck Award finalists announced!

The finalists for the Drunk Duck award have been revealed! You can find out about them in their forum thread, it’s quite a list! Stay tuned to find out the winners…

Amanda is also looking for panelists and judges! It’s a fun way to be involved even if your comic isn’t up for any awards (and even if it is!) Get more information here!

Thursday’s featured comic is Luna’s Journey!
Luna is a wolf, sort of. She comes from a pack that, in legend, is descended from a pair of humans turned to wolves. When she finds a human lost in the snow she decides to help him, curious about these beings she’s supposedly related to. He in turn suspects that she is no ordinary wolf. She wants so much to find out about him and communicate with him that something interesting happens… The lovely art has a manga influence, and the story is proving to be quirky and a little bit magical.

Read Luna’s Journey

Remember Surfboards and Rayguns? Remember the Comic Book Challenge? Let’s hope so because Surfboards and Rayguns is now in the Comic Book Challenge’s Top Ten! The Top Ten are now open to voting and there are video pitches of the creators, including Bradleyo!

Personally I’m quite proud that we’ve had Drunk Duck people in the Top 10 all 3 years of the CBC so far. :)

inhuman has reached 25 pages! Congrats!

Did you know that Doctor Shadow’s The Chronicles of Wyrden is 75 pages old? Well now you do, and you have no excuse!

Good Guy (by Androoo) has reached 125 pages! He tells me he’s in the middle of his first multi-issue story arc too. Keep it up!

Thursday’s featured comic is Cwen’s Quest!

Cwen’s father is a powerful man who lives on a floating island and has dragons for servants. He has built his own empire, so it’s only natural that he exiles his children so they aren’t a threat. (Right?) Cwen is one such exiled child… but she has come back, with the intent to take over the place. There’s just a couple of problems… This fun comic is brought to us by the creators of 3rd Party Fantasy and Charby the Vampirate!

The tri-weekly milestones news!

ubernite’s A Study in Horror and Misery (if you couldn’t guess, it’s a horror comic) has reached 25 pages! 5 more pages to go until the end of the current story- better get on with reading it!

The House of the Muses series will hit its 100th page mark on Friday! Congrats! As an addendum, Part 3 of the series will debut on September 3- that’s just a few weeks away! (Part 1 50 pages, Part 2 56 pages)

The Faction by the talented Peipei has reached 500 pages! If I had a dollar for each of those pages…. hmm, well maybe those dollars should go to PeiPei.

Lastly, Jenshin’s Two Moons has reached 500 pages too! She says, “It’s a sci-fi genetic manipulation sorta comic” and did you forget that it’s been featured? Worth your time to check it out! As a celebration, Jenshin will be selling some of her original comic pages!

Monday’s featured comic is CQB Epics!

Something is going on in Penitentiary 52, and it ain’t pretty. This is where the Emperor’s scientists experimented on people (among other things)… until a rebel breaks in to free some of the prisoners to work for their side. That doesn’t go so well, but there is a lot of cool fighting. Now we have the Emperor and his troops (elves by the way), the faction that wants to kill the Emperor, and a new threat: the undead.

Two milestones today!

First up we’ve got Mr V:
MR V wrote:

I’ve just finished uploading the 150th School Spirit strip to Drunk Duck. I’ve been adding them in storyline bunches once or twice a week so anybody who wanders into it can read a little, then get a bit more later on until the whole archive’s up.

The WHOLE archive on the main site is at 605 at the moment, but I’m trying to do it in steps so I don’t scare anybody off with a monster archive first up.

Sounds like a plan, monsters are scary. Usually.

And something from albone:
albone wrote:

Monday’s update of Rival Angels marks the 100th page in the series. What makes this page extra special is that main character, Sabrina ‘Ultragirl’ Mancini is in the middle of exorcising her past failures against someone that has gone out of their way to make Sabrina’s life miserable.

Let’s hope that payback involves an elbow in the kidneys or something! (Probably not a legal move but who cares?)

DD weekly news roundup

Monday’s featured comic is The Rancat!

What is a Rancat? Well, it’s a guy who naturally needs very little sleep to function, has an overabundance of adrenalin, and is friends with a computer whiz who likes to investigate the weird and shady. So, obviously, the Rancat is a nighttime vigilante. (Where did he get the neat suit?) Saving babies from giant pigs, giving food baskets to nuns, sorting out clone women… all in a night’s work. Forgive the few mis-Englishes, as this comic has incredible art, a bit of wit, and stories not to be missed.

Read [colo=blue]The Rancat[/color]

First up, let’s hear it for House of the Muses, which has been reviewed by Prism Comics! Read the review here, and houseofmuses has begun a discussion in the HOM forum for anyone interested!

Onward to milestones-

Bad Guy High by theRedDeath has reached 350 pages! That’s a mighty big number so I think some congratulations are in order!

Retake by SympleSymon has reached 50 pages! Congrats to you too!

Thursday’s featured comic is A Twist in the Tale!

This comic, although just getting started, will appeal to all types of readers. A Twist in the Tale is a collection of enjoyable short stories which, as the title suggests, have all got a twist of some sort. The genres change from story to story and the comic promises to have a little bit of everthing, given just a bit more time. Great black-and-white art and direct, rapid storytelling.

Read A Twist in the Tale

Hey all! Hope you like news!

We’ve got a bunch of milestones today, so let’s get started, shall we?

Return to Evil Inc by Kikaru has reached “25 pages of glory. With an awesome plot page too. I put literally hours of minutes of effort into it. It shall be awesome. Yeah XD” Yeah indeed!

Also reaching 25 pages is btstudios’s Zona, which I can tell you is very weird and worth checking out. :) (Not that the others aren’t.)

Dumok’s Shadow-Root has reached 50 pages! Congrats!

Animania by poonipoonz has just turned 1 year old! (If it were a Chinese comic, would it be 2?)

On Saturday, Angelfish: A CoV Comic by Masq will reach 200 pages! That’s a number to be proud of. :)

Lots of news from Drunk Duck this week!

Roll out the red carpet, dust off yer tux, and go buy that dress you had your eye on! This is BIG… you aren’t missing it are you???

The first round of Drunk Duck awards have been announced! The virtual ceremony is underway. Start below and work your way forward:

Winners will be announced up until September 5th!

Kudos to amanda who did a supa schweet job of putting it all together! Special thanks to all of the users that stepped up to be panelists! Great job!

Monday’s featured comic is Alone!

A young girl is traveling with her parents on a dark and lonely road when they have a car accident. After Akiko wakes she finds herself hurt, alone, and scared in a world possibly not her own, possibly at the mercy of a powerful and frightening being, and possibly not even alive. What is there to do but carry on? This black and white manga-styled comic is very decompressed, with a slow pacing that builds up the suspense.

Read Alone

I wonder if modern newspaper guys get to yell “Stop the presses” just like the olden-times guys did? That would be fun.

Contest winner!

DrunkDuck user Moondog (who does the comic Crackwalker) has let me know that he has won a contest run on Zeros2Heroes which let him get one of his comic scripts professionally produced! Congratulations to him, I think a lot of people will be very jealous. :)

His winning comic is called Hero High and is available now, so let’s see if we can get him some props, eh? I can’t repost everything he sent me, but he’s written a description of the comic here. It appears that the zeroes to heroes website is strong on social networking, so those users looking for new places to connect with comic creators should check it out. :)

Publishing!

comic_chic’s The Dreamer (you know, the lovely featured Revolutionary war one) has been picked up by IDW publishing, and can be ordered NOW through Previews! The order code is SEPT084131E and will go on sale in November, so if you want a copy, be sure and tell your comic store to get it in for you! Congrats, comic_chic!

Comic ending! I mean, :(

It’s time to say goodbye to Flick and Jube (by simonmackie) at 97 pages. We love our comics on DD, and it’s always a bit sad when one ends- although it’s made a bit better when the comic has reached its proper ending (vs the author just deciding to pack it in). Flick and Jube has a proper ending, so there is a complete story just waiting to be read!

Milestones!

Signs tell me to STOP and YIELD, but Signz tells me that his comic Safety Man has reached 25 pages, and that he demands cake, pie, and dairy treats. However I am sure he would welcome any visitors regardless of their willingness to bear bakery products.

Pokemon Sinnoh Surfer by Walrus has reached 150 pages! Walrus is a pretty productive guy! (On a side note, every time I make an announcement about Walrus’s Surfer comic, I think of the fake ad in Futurama telling people to ‘ride the walrus’…)

Yep, that’s right! Zorphbert & Fred gets their own newspost! Why? Because we neglected to tell you that Z&F celebrated its 200th page on Wednesday, and I feel terrible about it not being posted!

Check out Dawns super cool splash page filled with lotsa fans of her comic!

Sorry the news is a bit late today. The site is going super-slow for me and doesn’t want to load anything. I got tired of messing with it and came back later.

solidjake is running a contest for his comic Random Crapola! Help name the main character! The names must be original and funny, and after solidjake chooses his 5 favorites, the readers will get to vote for the one they like best. If you want to enter a name, do so in the comic’s blog!

Quite a few milestones today, so I will try to keep them short!

I’m a bit late with this, but Grin-n-Spirit by ghostrunner reached 275 comics on Monday!

Priest_Revan’s 2s A Company has hit 150 pages!

Reinderdijkhuis (how do you pronounce that?) announces that Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan has reached 400 comics today! It’s been updating every single day, and will continue to do so until the backlog is posted!

Also having a milestone today is Circque Do Star Wars by Druss01, which reaches 25 comics!

On Saturday, Angelos (by GreatScottComix) turns 50 pages old! Congrats!

Thursday’s featured comic is Blood Groove!

Pandemonium, Inc. handles supernatural problems, big and small. That doesn’t mean they’ve got things easy. (However, as hipsters with magic powers, they make them LOOK easy.) One of their number has got a prophecy hovering over his head, and we all know how those work out. Colorful, strong art style, interesting story and fun dialogue. Check it out!

Read Blood Groove

madisonchance’s Dirtheads has reached 100 strips!

Arcanic by arcanewind recently hit 25 pages!

Loud_G tells me that George the Dragon reached 75 pages on friday!
